Throwback Thursday: Mind the Gap!

Throwing it back across the decades this week in celebration of the London Underground’s 150th anniversary. To mark the momentous occasion, Queen Elizabeth II, The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duchess of Cambridge visited the Baker Street station yesterday as some of the best dressed passengers in the Tube’s history.

Her Majesty was looking well at her first major public engagement since her hospital stay for gastroenteritis, weaering a lovely tweed Karl Ludwig coat, although I do wish she was in a brighter hue- may have added some color to her cheeks! I am beyond obsessed with Kate’s Malene Birger coat – I do love a royal in some sparkle!

This was not The Queen and Prince Philips’ first venture below the bustling streets of London – the royal couple have hopped on the Tube before, including the Victoria line in 1966 and Heathrow Airport in 1977.

Kate confessed to frequenting the public transport system B.D. – before duchess, although this is the first time she took to the tube with this adorable accessory..

A baby never forgets its first ride on the Tube! Okay, maybe they do..

Happy 150th Anniversary to the London Underground!

Throwback Thursday: A Queen and a Pope Walk Into a Garden..

In the past week, Pope Benedict XVI made history when he retired from the papacy and sadly, Queen Elizabeth II spent some time in the hospital with gastroenteritis, causing her to cancel her trip to Rome. Although Her Majesty was not scheduled to meet with the now Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, the two did get to know one another a bit during his visit to the UK in 2010.

20101017_inq_cu1cohen17-a

Two of the most well-known figures in the world got together at Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, Scotland on September 16, 2010. The occassion marked the first official papal visit to Britain in nearly 500 years and of course, was not without a bit of controversy hanging over its head.

Here’s hoping The Queen is able to reschedule her trip to Rome (my favorite city in the world) sometime soon! Who knows, maybe she’ll be one of the first to greet the new pope?

An Interview with Max Foster

Anyone who has followed royal news since that little wedding they hosted back in 2010 knows who Max Foster is. You also know that this CNN International Anchor and Royal Correspondent needs no introduction – but I will give him one anyway. Max, aka @MaxFosterCNN, is one of the guys that makes royal watching so enjoyable. He is always responsive to his intrigued Twitter followers (myself included) and is constantly approaching the news from a unqiue angle. But before he was hanging out with Prince Harry in Jamaican beach bars and filming world leaders at Buckingham Palace he was interviewing the likes of Anthony Hopkins and covering Pope John Paul II’s final days.  Max was kind enough to let me badger him with questions about the day in the life of a top royal reporter.

If you think you were impressed with Max before, you’re in for a treat – especially if you’re a Harry fan. Lots of secrets and insider knowledge to be had with this one..

foster_max

Many people reading this might only know you as a royal reporter, but you have covered incredible events and spoken with fascinating people throughout your career, who has been your favorite interview?

The greatest thing about journalism is the access it gives you to people, places and moments in history. Just meeting the likes of Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and Julie Andrews is a privilege and I was glad I listened to a friend in publishing years ago who suggested I interview Stephanie Meyer as an author with potential. But one interview means a lot to me and that was with Anthony Hopkins. I was at University in Cardiff and a friend and I spotted him in a hotel. I was freelancing at Radio Wales and we left a note for him at reception asking for an interview. He replied with a letter a few weeks later saying he would be back in Cardiffand would do an interview. He spoke to me about not wanting to do a follow-up to Silence of the Lambs and about receiving a knighthood. They were both exclusive lines (at the time) and were picked up by the papers. The buzz of getting a story inspired me to go in to journalism.

Among those incredible global events, you have reported on some truly difficult topics – war, Pope John Paul II, natural disasters – what has been your most challenging assignment?

The Pope’s final days was definitely the most challenging. I had never anchored rolling coverage before and had only been at CNN a few months. There weren’t many scripts – only information about interviews and pictures that may or may not be coming in. The rest was ad libbing around a complex story that had huge significance to a lot of people. I got through it and have been lucky to be involved in all sorts of breaking news since then. It’s what CNN excels at and is the most exciting part of the job.

You have traveled around the globe covering a wide range of topics – what has been your favorite destination? If your reporting could take you anywhere in the world in 2013, where would you like to go?

I don’t actually travel nearly as much as my colleagues, some of whom literally live on the road, but travelling can be fun. The royal trips are always something to look forward to. Who can argue with hanging out with Prince Harry at a Jamaican beach bar?! Or sitting amongst vast crowds of cheering Canadians waiting to meet the new Duchess of Cambridge? Its hard work but gets you to places you would never expect to see.

While the royal wedding gave Kate a new title, it also brought a new one to you as well – CNN’s official Royal Correspondent. Did you ever envision your career taking this turn when you started at CNN years earlier?

I never set out to be a royal correspondent. My specialism was always business, but I was asked to report on the preparations for the royal wedding and I just through myself into it. We got some great access and the interest in the story just grew and grew. I interviewed everyone from the royal chef to the florist to the coachmen. And on the day itself, I anchored morning and evening shows from a spectacular purpose built and reported in between. It was the most amazing day. London had never felt so alive and for whatever reason this was one of the biggest stories of modern times, certainly the biggest outside broadcast. There are moments when you know you are witnessing history, or at least lasting moments, and this was one of those occasions. CNN’s coverage was phenomenal and a lot of people tuned in so, when I suggested making the royal correspondent role permanent, I was probably knocking against an open door. I felt that interest was going to grow in the royal family and I wanted to understand why there was that interest. What I do know is that The Queen, The Cambridge’s and Prince Harry are amongst the top ten stars in the world – I mean truly global stars, resonating everywhere.

What is your favorite story since covering the royal family? A moment or memory that stands out more than the rest?

Particular ‘moments’ were speaking to the crowds in the Mall the night before the wedding, Canada Day in Ottawa, Prince Harry deciding to race Usain Bolt in Jamaica, sitting in on a cabinet meeting in the Solomon Islands with the Duchess of Cambridge wearing a necklace emblazoned with ‘Princess Kate’… But filming arrivals at the back steps of Buckingham Palace at a reception for heads of state during the Olympics was one of the most powerful moments for me. The President of Russia, Secretary General of the United Nations, The First Lady of the United States, all tentatively making their way up the steps into the grand state rooms at the invitation of an octogenarian Queen. It was a reminder to me how powerful she is, despite just having a ceremonial role. She had this ability to create history and it’s because of history, but she’s just such a natural and so is The Duchess of Cambridge which is good news for the institution.

With the title of this blog I can’t not ask this question – can you share your favorite moment from Prince Harry’s tour?

It would be a day… in Jamaica. When he raced Usain Bolt, we already had our story, then he hugged the (republican) PM, reggae danced in blue swede shoes and impersonated Bob Marley during a state banquet. Every event became a story. It was exhausting keeping up with him but made for great coverage.

Earlier this year, you wrote what might be my favorite article on The Duchess of Cambridge yet – Kate Inc: A Corporate Approach to Royal Success – what inspired you to tell this story? What are your predictions for how “Kate Inc” will continue in the coming year?

Very kind. I was just discussing things with a palace source and it was an interesting line. A lot of people assume the royals are told what to do but that certainly isn’t the case at St James’ Palace. Kate, William and Harry make their own decisions and the people around them are there to advise and support them. I think that authenticity to what they do comes across and will be their best hope of ongoing success. They are modernising the ways things are done already and as long as they stay true to themselves, I think they will continue to do well. They do genuinely seem to be motivated by doing the best for Queen and country

Pretend someone reading this knows absolutely nothing about the royal family – what is the one thing you think they should know? Perhaps a secret you’ve picked up on over the years..

Being a royal isn’t as easy as it looks. Most events are very carefully planned and The Duchess of Cambridge for example will be thinking about everything she does. She just makes it look easy.

To say this has been exciting year for the royals would be a severe understatement, what is your favorite event you have covered this year?

My best event was Prince Harry’s tour. He was a great subject to cover, there was a lot of interest in the story and here’s another secret – the royal pack are a smart, fun bunch to work with and make travelling a pleasure. We like the bloggers too…

Choose one word to describe this past year in royal news.

Many thanks to Max for not only the interview, but his constant support of the royal bloggers and tweeters out there. We couldn’t keep up without him!

Happy Anniversary to…Me!

Happy New Year royal watching friends! In addition to being the first day of 2013, today is also the one year anniversary of my first blog post! It has been such an incredible year putting my royal thoughts to paper (well, wordpress) and getting to know all of you. The best part of this whole blogging thing has been the Twitter conversations and relationships developed – us royal watchers have to stick together! I can’t thank you all enough for reading, posting and tweeting along with me.

So, in honor of this special occasion I’m taking a different approach to the typical “royal year in review” posts. I present to you, my top ten favorite blog posts from 2012. In chronological order – I don’t want to play favorites with my favorites!

1. Prince Harry’s Tour – Top Moments

2. An Interview with Victoria Arbiter

3. Happy Anniversary William and Catherine!

It was difficult to pick just ten..but there you have it! What were your favorite royal moments of 2012?

Christmas Gifts for the Royals

Christmas is right around the corner – have you picked out a gift for your favorite royal? If not, no worries! I’ve compiled a list of the perfect presents to give the royal family this year. In keeping with the Sandringham tradition of gifting smaller items, all of these can be purchased rather cheaply.

Queen Elizabeth II

ridin_dirty_hoodieWho can forget Her Majesty’s infamous ride in a Range Rover through Balmoral wearing a hood? Now, instead of a dainty silk scarf, she can really ride dirty through the estate.

Prince Phillip

_T2eC16Z_!)EE9s2uiOVlBQEzibhM4!__60_35_largeThe Duke of Edinburgh is without a doubt the comedian of the family, and he must be quite proud to be married to the best Bond girl ever. One can only imagine the side commentary during the opening ceremony of the Olympics.

Prince Charles

a081Word on the street is that DJ Charlie W is hoping his music career really takes off in 2013 after his smashing performance in Toronto this summer. If he wants to spin on the ones and twos with the best of the best, he’s got to rep his country on his DJ equipment like the one and only DJ Pauly D..

The Duchess of Cornwall

il_570xN.407750185_gbdlCamilla is never the type to shy away from a fun fascinator, she’s had some really…interesting headgear through the years. Now, she doesn’t need to wait to enjoy gin o’clock until she gets home, she can do so during parades, races, church services or charitable engagements with the flask fascinator!

Prince William

real_men_make_twins_golf_shirtIf you’ve been following the media blitz surrounding Kate’s acute morning sickness, you would know that her Hyperemesis Gravidarum diagnosis obviously means she’s having twins. Way to go, Wills.

The Duchess of Cambridge

Everyone is expecting Kate to be the most fashionable pregnant woman the world has ever seen, which only means one thing – she needs to borrow Joey Tribiani’s Thanksgiving pants. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you must watch it.

You should also get her this card to go with the pants..

You might want to stay away from purchasing Captain Wales a ticket to Vegas to welcome him home from Afghanistan the same way he left, but that doesn’t mean you still can’t have some fun with him. These crown jewels boxers from gin-oclock.com are just what he needs – they will keep him covered up yet still good for a few laughs.

Okay, clearly this is a joke list of gifts. If you can’t have fun with the royals at Christmas, when can you, eh?

A Very Royal Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to all of my fellow Americans! Eek, that phrase makes me sounds like a politician. Moving along… although the British don’t celebrate turkey day, who says we can’t give thanks for all that is royal and right in this world? In no particular order, here are ten royal happenings to be thankful for..

  1. The return of The Duchess of Cambridge’s white McQueen coat at the Order of the Garter service.
  2. Celebrating Queen Elizabeth II’s 60th year on the throne, complete with Diamond Jubilee flotillas, concerts and worldwide tours. Giving us countless opportunities to gawk at our favorite family members. Which leads me to number three..
  3. Prince Harry’s tan linen suit.
  4. Prince Philip’s good health after a year of unfortunate hospital visits.
  5. The royal legal team who quickly put the kibosh on the leaked Kate photos. Not cool French tabloids. Not. Cool.
  6. The introduction of new ties into Prince William’s wardrobe. Soooo over that maroon one, Wills. We probably have your wife to thank for this one.
  7. Prince Philip’s sense of humor, which never fails to shine through despite rainy flotillas, hospital stays and scandals.
  8. Lupo. C’mon..who isn’t thankful for an adorable puppy with his very own Twitter account?
  9. Prince William’s safe return from the Falkland Islands.
  10. The overall fabulousness of Sophie, Countess of Wessex. The woman does not get nearly enough credit, so I’m giving her some now.

What royal moments are you thankful for this year? Have I missed any of your favorites? In between scarfing down turkey and potatoes, leave some comments!

Happy Thanksgiving!

America For The Win!

It’s the first day post-Olympics and if you’re anything like me, you’re feeling pretty sad today – as if something is missing from your life. No, I’m not just talking about Ryan Lochte in a swimsuit taking over your TV.

Sometimes the best cure for a hangover is to get up and keep on drinking. So, to cure your London 2012 blues, here are my top ten favorite moments from the past two weeks.

#1TEAM USA

I could spend an entire post on the accomplishments of Team USA during the Olympics, 104 of them to be exact, but since most of my readers are Team GB I will refrain. Team USA took over London, heading for Heathrow this morning with more medals than any other nation. From Gabby Douglas and the Fab Five to David Boudia and Serena Williams, the Americans leaped, dove, served, swam and ran their way into the history books. At the end of it all, 255 American athletes stood on the podium, claiming 26 gold medals. AMERICA FOR THE WIN!

#2 – USA Swimming & Michael Phelps

I can exclusively report the following breaking news: Michael Phelps was raised by mermaids.

PA

Okay, clearly that’s not actually true, but he seriously came from some special gene pool. During his final Olympics (cue the crying), Michael Phelps claimed his 22nd medal and title of most decorated Olympian in history. USA Swimming as a whole kicked serious fin; from my favorite Olympian Ryan Lochte to the adorable Missy Franklin (who apparently I need to fight for Prince Harry), both the men and women had an almost constant presence on the podium in the aquatic center. Must be something in the water over here…

AP

#3 – The Duke & Duchess of PDA

Just when you thought Will and Kate could not get any cuter, this happened:

For all of those who say the royals never show affection/emotion I say.. welcome to Club Cambridge. The first week of the Olympics saw the world’s most popular couple showing constant displays of affection and excitement before Kate and her perfect hair took over with almost daily appearances when Will returned to work. The Duchess of Cambridge takes gold for best facial expressions of the Olympics.

#4 – Prince Harry

SO much Prince Harry throughout the Olympics, I can’t even deal. Everywhere he went – and he went A LOT of places – Prince Hottie lived up to his nickname. He laughed, he cried, he made us all swoon. Thank you International Olympic Committee for gifting London with the 2012 Games and allowing us to have fourteen days of hotness. I’m pretty sure I hit a decibel I didn’t know existed when he made his way into the Closing Ceremony, looking like some sort of blue suited god.

#5 – People of the World, SPICE UP YOUR LIFE!

Viva Forever! I feel badly for anyone who didn’t have the pleasure of growing up with the Spice Girls in their lives. Thank you Baby, Ginger, Posh, Scary and Sporty for reuniting- we missed you. Now, if you’ll excuse me I’m going to break out my Spice World VHS.

#6 – Usain Bolt, Raised by Cheetahs

How could you not love Usain Bolt? Crazy stat: Three gold medals in under 40 seconds. If I’m ever caught in a burning build/getting mugged/running from a bear, I want this guy by my side. Partly for comic relief, mostly for the running thing.

Reuters

#7 – Queen by Day, Bond Girl by Night

Gotta hand it to Queen Elizabeth II for making her acting debut alongside James Bond. Don’t ever accuse her of being old and stuffy again.

#8 – Andy Murray

In what may be the quickest redemption the tennis world has ever seen, Andy Murray overtook Roger Federer to win gold on centre court at Wimbledon just one month after the Swiss tennis star claimed the Grand Slam title. It was one of those classic moments that only the Olympics can bring.

London 2012

#9 – Boris Johnson

I went back and forth about adding London’s colorful mayor to my list of top moments, but after NBC captured the perfect shot of him spicing up his life during the Closing Ceremony, he made the final cut. Even before the Games officially got underway, Johnson had us laughing with his tour of the Olympic Village. Then, he went and got himself stuck on a zipline. Thanks for the laughs, Boris.

NBC News

#10 – London

It is no secret that a big reason I was overly excited for this Olympics was the host city. As predicted, London did not disappoint. The images from around Great Britain that flooded my television, Twitter timeline and newspapers were breathtaking. The British certainly know how to throw a celebration and this was one the world will be talking about for a while. I was pretty let down when I turned on the news this morning to once again be flooded by shots of the New Jersey Turnpike and Hudson River. Give me back the Thames and Big Ben!

As David Cameron put it - Britain delivered.

Reuters

Congratulations on a successful Olympics, London!

BOOM! Britain. Nailed It.

I don’t even know where to begin with the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics. I am not kidding when I say there is little I wouldn’t have done to be in that stadium tonight.

That being said, the London 2012 Opening Ceremony was the second time in the past two months the UK has completely blown me away. The ceremony truly focused on the athletes, as it very well should have been. They have worked so hard for so long and deserve every moment of spotlight that has been thrust upon them.

My Team USA French beret is tipped off to you, Danny Boyle. Based on my Facebook and Twitter feeds, the majority of Americans were nowhere near as impressed as I was and that’s a little sad. I would like to think something like the Olympics would open more people’s eyes to the cultures across the globe, and London 2012 did a top notch job of showcasing the essence of Britain’s culture and history. Sorry, but that’s exactly what the Opening Ceremony is about in any Olympics, in any country, every single time – it’s the athletes, the host nation and the world coming together. Any good host city would do exactly what London did. Regardless of your thoughts on the historic segments, the finale.. the fireworks, the music.. that had to have gotten to you. Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion and that just happens to be mine. So in all seriousness, no offense to all of you who hated it.

The moment I was most looking forward to certainly did not disappoint – The Queen, the corgis and the ultimate man of mystery. Daniel Craig “escorting” Her Majesty into the Opening Ceremony was amazing – Queen Elizabeth II is the best Bond girl there ever was. If any of you needed any more convincing that Queen Elizabeth II is the most bad ass 80-something around, dressed in diamonds and feathers, hanging out with Bond should have taken care of that. Maybe they enjoyed some shaken, not stirred, gin Martinis afterwards.

Although there was not much royal coverage after the opening segment, I’m totally okay with that – the night was about the athletes! Harry did look totally swoon worthy in his Union Jack themed suit and tie ensemble, Kate looked stunning in her ice blue Christopher Kane dress and William was wearing his usual navy suit and maroon tie (no surprises there at all). Aw, William and Harry..twinsies!

As far as the remainder of the Opening Ceremony goes – Team USA and Team GB’s entrances warmed my heart as much as Prince Harry’s beautiful face tends to do. The reaction that overtook the stadium as the host nation paraded in was a special moment and of course, watching Team USA march in, made in China berets and all, brought a tiny tear to my eye. Yes, I did just admit that and I’m totally okay with it.

And then…there was the torch. Um, that arrival was utterly insane. HELLO DAVID BECKHAM. David Beckham in a suit, on a speed boat, surrounded by fire.. holy hotness. I still believe he should have had a much bigger role in these Olympics, specifically as a member of the Team GB soccer squad..but I’ll take Becks where I can get him.

Oh, and it goes without saying that the torch procession, cauldron lighting and Sir Paul McCartney were all INCREDIBLE. McCartney, Hey Jude.. C’MON!

I don’t think there is much left to say other than..JOB WELL DONE LONDON! You have once again proved that you know how to throw one heck of a ceremony.

Now that London has done an excellent job opening the London 2012 Summer Olympics, my attention turn to Team USA. For as much as I go one about my love for Britain, America is home. Bring back that hardware Team USA!

As Matt Lauer said, Does WOW even suffice? Thanks for a great night, London! GO USA!

Put Me in Coach, I’m Ready to Play!

As if the Summer Olympics were not exciting enough, the International Olympic Committee honored London with hosting duties this year. Then, as if of two weeks of non-stop television coverage of my favorite city in the world wasn’t enough, the young royals stepped up to the plate as Team GB Olympic Ambassadors. Bottom line, if I could take two weeks off from work to do nothing but watch the Games..I would. Okay, if I’m wishing for things just give me a first class ticket to London with VIP passes to all of the main events.

So, if Aladdin’s magic lamp appeared on my front porch today and Genie sent me off to London, what events would I want complete access to? Lucky for me, William, Catherine and Harry made that decision very easy as the palace released the complete list of the events they will be attending yesterday.

To kick things off, Queen Elizabeth II will officially open the 2012 Summer Olympic Games at Friday’s opening ceremony, accompanied by senior members of the firm. This would actually be the perfect occasion for William to wear his signature navy suit and maroon tie that he wears 99% of the time. (Sorry Will!) I am also really hoping to see Kate in red – what do you think?

Over the next couple of weeks, the three musketeers will be actively participating in all aspects of the Games, from attending sporting events to meeting athletes and behind-the-scenes workers in the Olympic Village. If you’re looking to catch a glimpse of the young royals, look no further than the following itinerary:

Prince Harry

• 30 July – Equestrian events at Greenwich, men’s 10m diving and visit Team GB House

• 31 July – Equestrian events at Greenwich and awarding of medals, visit the Athletes’ Village

• 2 August –  School Games reception at Clarence House

• 3 August –  Equestrian, Greenwich

• 5 August –  Athletics and men’s 100m final, Olympic Park

• 8 August –  Beach Volleyball, Horseguards Parade

• 9 August – Team GB visit. Athletics, Olympic Park

• 12 August –  Closing Ceremony

Prince William

• 28 July/29 July – Equestrian events at Greenwich

• 29 July – Team GB Football at Wembley

• 30 July – Equestrian events at Greenwich and visit Team GB House

• 31 July – Equestrian events at Greenwich and awarding of medals, visit the Athletes’ Village

• 2 – August Tennis at Wimbledon

• 3 – August Equestrian dressage, Greenwich. Swimming, Olympic Park

• 5 – August Athletics including men’s 100m final at Olympic Park

Catherine

• 30 July – Equestrian events, Greenwich. Reception at The Royal Academy of Arts

• 2 August –  Tennis at Wimbledon

• 3 August –  Swimming at Olympic Park

• 4 August – Hockey at Olympic Park

• 5 August – Athletics at Olympic Park and Gymnastics and visit Team GB House

• 6 August –  Sailing, Weymouth.

• 9 August – Synchronised Swimming, Olympic Park

• 11 August – Men’s 10m Diving, Olympic Park.

• 12 August – Closing Ceremony

As you can see, you are bound to catch Princes William and Harry and Duchess Catherine on almost any given day throughout the Olympics. Although Harry and Catherine will be among the family members in attendance for the closing ceremony and at this point, William will not.

Prince Charles and his wife, The Duchess of Cornwall, will also take part in the sporting festivities at the end of July, including cycling, badminton and equestrian.

Don’t forget – Zara Phillips will be competing as part of Team GB’s equestrian team, so you will also see her mother, Princess Anne, showing her support.

Of course, all royal appearances are subject to change. Prince Harry could always end up whisking away the losing pair at women’s volleyball on a romantic getaway and never returning. William could decide to jump back in the pool and try to make it as a professional water polo player. Kate could pick up a hockey stick and trade in royal life for the chance at gold. One out of the three has the potential to actually happen.

And if we are all very lucky, maybe there will be a repeat of my favorite royal moment of 2012.

I Can’t Wait for London 2012

There is less than a month to go until the opening ceremony for London 2012 – and I cannot wait! I’ve always been a huge fan of the Summer Olympics and the fact that the Games are taking place in London this year.. I’ll be glued to the 3,500 hours of online coverage.

So, why am I so excited for the Olympics? Here are my top ten reasons why the Summer Olympics will be kick ass..in no particular order.

1. Two Words – Ryan Lochte.

2. That look of pure joy on The Queen’s face that she had throughout the entire Diamond Jubilee and we are sure to see during the opening and closing ceremonies. C’mon, Her Majesty is too adorable when she grins from ear to ear!

3. Two weeks of possible wardrobe heaven from The Duchess of Cambridge – who knows what events she will appear at!

4. If London can do this with the Diamond Jubilee, I can only imagine the spectacle we are in for when the entire world is watching. No one does pomp and pageantry like the British!

5. The slight chance that Usain Bolt will challenge Prince Harry to a do-over. Okay, yes..the chance that will happen is way less than slight.

6. Endless coverage of my favorite city in the world..it’s like a free trip to London from the comfort of my couch.

7. Uniforms. I can’t wait to see how each country’s uniforms, especially after all of the controversy surrounding Team GB’s Stella McCartney kits.

8. Team USA is guaranteed to bring home some serious hardware and well, that makes me proud.

9. Is there anything more exciting than Olympic swimming? Nope. Don’t think so.

10. Call me a dork, but something about the world coming together, despite war, economic bailouts, governments collapsing and all of our problems..that’s pretty special.

If you want to keep up with all of the excitement on Twitter, be sure to follow @London2012 (all individual sport handles are listed on this page), @Olympics, @NBCOlympics, @TeamGB, @USOlympic, @VisitBritain, @VisitLondon and @HeathrowAirport.
